The Pleasures of Culture with the Traditional Wine Estates
Grafenegg presents the Wein-Edition

Grafenegg, located in the middle of the wine-growing area of Niederösterreich, or Lower Austria, has joined forces with the Österreichische Traditionsweingüter – the Austrian Traditional Wine Estates – to produce five region-typical wines that make up the Wein-Edition Grafenegg collection. These wines are: Riesling Zöbinger Heiligenstein 2010 (from Weingut Willi Bründlmayer); St.Laurent 2008 (from Weingut Malat); Grüner Veltliner Wagram 2010 (from Weingut Fritsch); Riesling Sprintzenberg 2010 (from the Bio-Weingut Geyerhof), and a fruity Zweigelt 2009 (from Weingut Dolle).

Back in the olden days, when most of the vineyards in Austria were owned and cultivated by small farms, monoculture was not the norm because of the need to earn money: often planted between the rows of grapevines were a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs, such as horseradish, garlic, strawberries, onions, tomatoes and red currants.

VieVinum
The VieVinum is recognized as the summit for gastronomes, journalists, wine retailers and wine lovers alike. It demonstrates what happens on this small, but nevertheless vibrant market. Top winemakers from all over the world will present their current vinophile treasures, creating ideal opportunities to gather information and exchange experiences. The members of the ‘Österreichische Traditionsweingüter’ will present their wines in Gardehalle II on the entry level.

The Österreichische Traditionsweingüter’ are inviting for a horizontal and vertical tasting of their ‘Erste Lagen’ (first groth) vineyards. The ‘Vineyard Classification 2010’ is a project that was started with the founding of the growers association in 1992. We are happy to present you wines from three decades. Erste Lage Vineyards in the Danube Region
The proudest traditional vineyards of Austria’s Danube winegrowing region (Kremstal, Traisental, Kamptal und Wagram) have joined forces in the Federation of Traditional Austrian Winemakers (ÖTW). The ÖTW was founded in 1992 with the goal of establishing a vineyard site classification system.

ÖTW with new chairman
Michael Moosbrugger leads traditions vineyards:

Since June, Michael Moosbrugger (41) is the new chairman of the Verein Österreichischer Traditionsweingüter (Association of Austrian Traditions Vineyards), an elitist group of twenty winegrowers whose vineyards are located along the Danube.

After an extremely dry and cold winter (up to –18°C), which also caused minor frost damage in some vineyards, the change in temperature on the 7th of April led to a late shoot in mid-April. The subsequent warm weather, coupled with some rainfalls in May, resulted in a quick growth and a blossom at the end of May till the beginning of June, extremely early for the late shoot. The mercilessly hot and dry summer could only be overcome well due to the moisture reserves in the soil still remaining from the year before and, in extreme vineyard sites, by means of drop irrigation. Yet it was important to adapt the work in the vineyards to the particular demands this vintage required

July 2002 The "Österreichischen Traditionsweingüter" - obliged to authentic wine
Ten years ago a small group of vintners from the Kremstal and Kamptal (Lower Austria) began to get together regularly to discuss their passion wine. In particular the vineyards - soil, climate and variety - and their connection with quality and identity of the wine were in the center of discussion.
